Man Arrested for Kidnapping and Aggravated Sexual Assault


UNION CITY MAN CHARGED WITH KIDNAPPING, CARJACKING AND AGGRAVATED  SEXUAL ASSAULT OF NEW YORK WOMAN

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

A 44-year-old Union City man has been charged and arrested for kidnapping, carjacking and aggravated sexual assault of a 26-year-old New York woman after he entered the running car she was sleeping in and drove her to North Bergen Tuesday night where he sexually assaulted her.

Juan Gonzalez-Fuentes was charged with Kidnapping in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:13-1(B)(1), a crime of the first degree; Carjacking in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:15-2, a crime of the first degree; Burglary in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2A(1), a crime of the second degree; two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2(A), crimes of the first degree; and Aggravated Sexual Criminal Contact in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3A, a crime of the third degree. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City just after 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021.

On Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m., while the victim was asleep in her boyfriend’s car which was parked and left running on 28th Street off of Kennedy Boulevard in Union City, Gonzalez-Fuentes entered the car and drove the victim to the downtown area of North Bergen near 2600 Meadowview Avenue. The victim awoke to Gonzalez-Fuentes sexually assaulting her. Gonzalez-Fuentes then fled the scene.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Union City and North Bergen Police Departments for the investigation and arrest.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit has filed a motion to detain Gonzalez-Fuentes and a detention hearing is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 20, 2021.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
