On Monday, January 13, 2020, shortly after 3:15 a.m., members of the Hoboken Police Department responded to the area of the Midtown Garage located at 371 4th Street in Hoboken on reports of a possible robbery and a female in distress.

Upon arrival, Hoboken Police Officers encountered a female victim, age 23, of Hoboken, on 2nd Street. The victim alleged that she was sexually assaulted while in the Midtown Garage elevator.

The investigation led to the suspect being identified as 24-year-old Jeremy Torres Gonzalez. On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at approximately 8:15 a.m., members of the Hoboken Police Department arrested Torres Gonzalez on 3rd Street in Hoboken after he was found to have open warrants on unrelated matters. Later that evening, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit charged him with the sexual assault.

Torres Gonzalez has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a, first-degree crimes; Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c, a second-degree crime; Possession of a Weapon (Knife/Box Cutter) for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4; a third-degree crime; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Knife/Box Cutter) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5, a fourth-degree crime; and Theft by Unlawful Taking in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3, a third-degree crime.

Torres Gonzalez was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending his first appearance. The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of the defendant. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, 2020.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Hoboken Police Department for the investigation and arrests.
