MALE FATALLY SHOT IN JERSEY CITY OVER WEEKEND

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Saturday, April 29, 2017, at approximately 4:55 a.m., Jersey City Officers were dispatched to the area of 15 Dwight Street in Jersey City on a report of shots fired and a vehicle leaving the scene.  A short while later, the vehicle was located and crashed at the intersection of Grand Street and Jersey Avenue.  The victim, who was identified as Amir Pleasant, age 20, of Jersey City, was found in the vehicle and was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 5:30 a.m.  Investigators believe Pleasant was shot on Dwight Street and drove himself to Grand Street and Jersey Avenue.

The Medical Examiner determined the cause of death as gunshot wounds to the upper torso and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case.  No arrests have been made so far.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip on the website of the Prosecutor at: http://www.hudsoncountyprosecutorsofficenj.org/homicide-tip/ .
