LENGTHY INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARREST OF NORTH BERGEN MAN

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

Following a three month investigation, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Narcotics Task Force arrested a North Bergen man for the possession and distribution of marijuana in North Bergen.

On November 8, 2017, NTF Detectives arrested Miguel Capellan, age 33, for various charges involving possession of marijuana and marijuana oil with the intent to distribute. He was arrested after a search of his residence and garage led to the recovery of more than 200 pounds of high-grade marijuana and more than 15 pounds of marijuana oil.

The NTF also seized approximately $100,000 in United States currency, five vehicles and a stolen handgun. The street value of the total quantity of marijuana seized is approximately $750,000.

Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Narcotic Task Force for the investigation and arrest, and the K-9 Unit of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with the arrest.

Capellan was charged with the following: two counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Dangerous Substances in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5a and 2C:35-5b; two counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Dangerous Substances while within 1000 feet of a school zone in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7; Possession of a Firearm while Committing a Narcotics Offense in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4.1; Money Laundering in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-25; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 39-5; Receiving Stolen Property in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-7; Maintaining a Controlled Dangerous Substance Facility in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 35-4.1; Possession with the Intent to Distribute Drug Paraphernalia in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 36-3; and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 24-4.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
