KEARNY COUNCIL MEMBER FOUND DEAD IN CAR FIRE

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Saturday, January 7, 2017, shortly after 12:45 p.m., Kearny Police were dispatched to Arlington Avenue on a report of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival at 60 Arlington Avenue, officers observed a blue Volkswagen Beetle on fire in the parking lot of West Hudson Lumber & Millwork Company.

After extinguishing the flames, Kearny Police officers observed a lifeless body in the driver seat of the vehicle. The deceased was later identified as John Giordano, age 50, of Kearny. He was the owner of West Hudson Lumber & Millwork Company and a Kearny Council Member. Giordano was pronounced dead at approximately 5:30 p.m.

While the final results of the Medical Examiner are still pending, at this time, the death is not considered suspicious and no foul play is suspected.

The exact origin and cause of the fire are still pending and an ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and Kearny Fire Department officials.
