JURY CONVICTS MAN ON ALL CHARGES FOR 2019 FATAL SHOOTING IN JERSEY CITY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Tuesday, July 5, 2022, a Hudson County jury convicted Darius Bolden, 36, of Jersey City, on all counts for his role in the shooting death of Jason Dunbar, 35, of Jersey City, on Tuesday, August 27, 2019.

Bolden was found guilty of Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, a crime of the first degree, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1), a crime of the second degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1), a crime of the second degree. The verdict was delivered before the Honorable Mitzy Galis-Menendez, J.S.C., following a two week trial.

On Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 169 Fulton Avenue. Responding officers found an unresponsive man – later identified as Jason Dunbar, 35, of Jersey City – with multiple apparent gunshot wounds. Dunbar was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center and pronounced dead at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds and manner of death to be homicide.

Sentencing is scheduled for Friday, August 12, 2022. The State is represented in this case by Assistant Prosecutor David Feldman and Assistant Prosecutor Nicole Ghezzar.
