JERSEY CITY MAN SHOT IN OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:
On Friday, December 21, 2018, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Jersey City Police Officers were dispatched to 144 Orient Avenue in Jersey City on a report of a violent emotional disturbed male.
Upon arrival, responding officers entered 144 Orient Avenue and were directed to the first floor where they engaged the individual and attempted to calm him. Their attempts were unsuccessful and ultimately, after the man produced a weapon, one Police Officer discharged his service weapon.
The individual, later identified as a 36-year-old man who lived at that address with his parents, was struck in the torso. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he is in critical, but stable condition.
Pursuant to Attorney General guidelines, the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor has taken over the investigation from the Jersey City Police Department and the Prosecutor’s Internal Affairs Unit is in the early stages of the investigation. The New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice was immediately notified of the incident.
