JERSEY CITY MAN ARRESTED AFTER TWO WEEK INVESTIGATION BY NARCOTICS TASK FORCE

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

Following a two-week investigation, members of the Prosecutor’s Narcotics Task Force and the Jersey City Police Department arrested Keith Brooks, age 34, of Jersey City, and charged him with various controlled dangerous substance offenses, hindering, and several counts of endangering the welfare of children for possessing the narcotics in an apartment where two small children reside.

On March 31, 2017, detectives initiated a stop of a vehicle driven by Brooks on Stevens Avenue in Jersey City. As detectives approached the vehicle, Brooks opened the driver’s side door and discarded five bags of suspected heroin. He was arrested at that time.

Detectives then responded to his residence where they executed a search warrant of his apartment. Detectives recovered and seized an additional 430 bags of suspected heroin, approximately 30 grams of suspected cocaine, a small amount of marijuana and $8,700 in United States currency. The seized suspected heroin has a street value in excess of $2,500 and the suspected cocaine has a street value of more than $1,300. Brooks is currently on probation.

Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Jersey City Police Department and the Port Authority Police Department Canine Unit for assisting with the search and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
