JERSEY CITY MAN ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On October 3, 2019, at approximately 11:15 p.m., members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Theodore Wilson, age 52, of Jersey City, on charges involving the sexual assault of a 7-year-old girl from Jersey City. He was arrested without incident at the Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City.

The sexual assaults allegedly occurred in 2018 in the victim’s home and were first reported to the Jersey City Police Department who then notified the Prosecutor’s Office SVU. Wilson was arrested following an SVU investigation into the allegations. Wilson is reported to be acquainted with the victim’s family.

Wilson has been charged with two counts of second-degree Sexual Assault by Contact in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2; two counts of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4; and one count of fourth-degree Lewdness in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-4.

Following his arrest, Wilson was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending his first appearance. The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of the defendant. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, 2019.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit for the investigation and arrest with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
