INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARREST OF LONG ISLAND MAN BY INSURANCE FRAUD UNIT

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

A 32-year-old man has been arrested by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit following an investigation that determined he submitted a fraudulent insurance claim for a motor vehicle he owned.

Louis Volpe, of Nesconset, New York, is charged with one count of Insurance Fraud in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-4.6a, a third-degree crime. Volpe, formerly a resident of Hoboken, was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City on Thursday, March 16, 2023 and released pending his first court appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court which is tentatively scheduled for March 23, 2023.

The investigation determined that Volpe filed a claim with Progressive Insurance and intentionally gave them incorrect information regarding water damage sustained by his 2016 Jeep Cherokee and knowingly concealed that the Jeep had pre-existing mold damage. Prosecutor Suarez credited members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit with the investigation and arrest.

The above charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
