HOMICIDE UNIT INVESTIGATES SHOOTING DEATH IN JERSEY CITY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released the following information:

On Friday, October 9, 2020, the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Van Horne and Maple streets in Jersey City. Upon arrival, responding police officers found an unresponsive male with an apparent gunshot wound in the area of the gazebo in Lafayette Park.

The male, later identified as Teyan Grant, age 47, of Jersey City was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 8:45 p.m. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department. No arrests have been made at this time.
