Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is investigating a crash involving a marked Jersey City Police Department patrol car and pedestrian in Jersey City on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

At approximately 4:41 p.m., a Jersey City Police Officer reported striking a pedestrian who was jogging in the area of Jersey Avenue and Aetna Street while responding to a call. The victim, a 44-year-old Jersey City man, was transported to Jersey City Medical Center to be treated for a serious, but not life threatening injury to a lower extremity.

A preliminary investigation completed on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit determined the patrol car, a Ford Crown Victoria, was traveling south on Jersey Avenue with lights and sirens activated when the victim was struck. The vehicle was occupied by the driver and one additional Jersey City Police Officer.

The investigation is ongoing by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit.
