On November 16, 2017, detectives from the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit arrested Nasiar Day, a man who was sought on murder charges in connection with an incident on Palisade Avenue in Jersey City earlier this week.

Homicide detectives arrested Day, age 19, of Newark, at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Broad Street in Newark without incident. He was processed and then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny. Day is expected to have his first appearance in CJR Court in the CJP Courtroom in the Hudson County Administration Building this afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

In addition to the Homicide detectives, Prosecutor Suarez credited the Newark Police Department for assisting with the arrest.

An arrest warrant was issued for Day on November 15, 2017, charging him with Murder and Felony Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, first-degree crimes; Armed Burglary in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2, a second-degree crime; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4, a third-degree crime; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5, a fourth-degree crime; and Conspiracy to Commit these crimes.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7:25 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause of death to be a stab wound to the chest and the manner of death to be homicide.
