GANG TASK FORCE DETECTIVES ARREST THREE ON CDS CHARGES

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Monday, August 12, 2019, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Gang Task Force arrested three Jersey City residents while conducting an investigation on Wade Street in Jersey City.

Malcolm Haynes, age 48, of Jersey City, has been arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) with the Intent to Distribute in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin) with the Intent to Distribute in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) with the Intent to Distribute within 500 feet of a Public Building in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7.1; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin) with the Intent to Distribute within 500 feet of a Public Building in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7.1; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) with the Intent to Distribute within 1000 feet of School Property in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin) with the Intent to Distribute within 1000 feet of School Property in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with the Intent to Distribute CDS in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:36-3. He was arrested without incident.

April Rice, age 47, of Jersey City, has been arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) with the Intent to Distribute in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin) with the Intent to Distribute in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) with the Intent to Distribute within 500 feet of a Public Building in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7.1; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin) with the Intent to Distribute within 500 feet of a Public Building in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7.1; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) with the Intent to Distribute within 1000 feet of School Property in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin) with the Intent to Distribute within 1000 feet of School Property in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with the Intent to Distribute CDS in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:36-3; Obstructing in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1; Tampering with Physical Evidence in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:28-6; and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.

Dwight Drew, age 30, of Jersey City, has been arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) with the Intent to Distribute in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin) with the Intent to Distribute in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) with the Intent to Distribute within 500 feet of a Public Building in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7.1; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin) with the Intent to Distribute within 500 feet of a Public Building in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7.1; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine) with the Intent to Distribute within 1000 feet of School Property in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin) with the Intent to Distribute within 1000 feet of School Property in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with the Intent to Distribute CDS in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:36-3; Hindering in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3; and Money Laundering in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-24. During his arrest, approximately $8,000 in U.S. currency was recovered.

The investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at 122 Wade Street in Jersey City where detectives recovered approximately 700 folds of heroin, four grams of crack-cocaine, various types of drug paraphernalia and more than $4,000 in U.S. currency.

Following the arrests, the defendants were transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.

Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Gang Task Force with the arrests and the Jersey City Police Department for assisting with the arrests.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
