Early Morning Collision Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

EARLY MORNING COLLISION IN JERSEY CITY LEAVES ONE DEAD, TWO INJURED

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Friday, December 6, 2019, at approximately 4:20 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the intersection of John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Fairmount Avenue on multiple reports of a motor vehicle collision with injuries. Upon arrival, responding Jersey City Police Officers found a serious motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles and multiple injured individuals.

The initial investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department revealed that one of the vehicles, a southbound 2003 Nissan Xterra collided head-on with a northbound 2014 Chevrolet Impala marked as a Taxi Cab.

There were two male occupants in the Xterra, both who were injured in the collision and subsequently transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center. One of the occupants, a 35-year-old resident of Jersey City, was pronounced dead at approximately 5:15 a.m. The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The second occupant of the vehicle, a 32-year-old resident of Jersey City is being treated for serious bodily injuries. He is listed in critical condition, however he remains stable.

The driver of the Impala, a 47-year-old male resident of Jersey City, was also transported by EMS to Jersey City Medical Center where he is being treated for serious bodily injuries. He is listed in critical condition, however he also remains stable.

The events surrounding the collision remain under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department. No charges have been filed at this time.
