DECEASED MALE FOUND IN HUDSON RIVER IN HOBOKEN

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released the following information:

On Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at approximately 2:48 p.m., the Hoboken Police Department received a report of a body floating in the Hudson River near the Lackawanna Ferry Station in Hoboken.

Responding Hoboken police officers, along with NJ Transit police officers and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, found the lifeless body as reported. The body of a male was removed from the water and secured by Hoboken Fire Department Rescue Team members operating a rescue boat.

The deceased has been identified as Jaime Kwebetchou, age 27, from Maryland, a man who was reported missing by his family on May 9, 2019. He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 3:55 p.m.

The exact cause and manner of death is pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case with assistance from the Hoboken Police Department.
