Charges Upgraded To Murder After Oct. Stabbing Victim Dies


CHARGES UPGRADED TO MURDER AFTER OCTOBER STABBING VICTIM DIES

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released the following information:

On November 13, 2017, charges against Lateefa Rabb, age 34, of Jersey City, were upgraded to include Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, a first-degree crime, after the victim of a knife attack died from his injuries. Rabb was arrested at approximately 4 p.m. at the Hudson County Correctional Facility by detectives from the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit

On October 20, 2017, at approximately 7:20 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a male who was bleeding in an apartment located at 191 Academy Street in Jersey City. Upon arrival, police officers found a victim bleeding from his chest.

The victim was identified as Carl Salisbury, age 57, of Jersey City. He was treated at the scene by Emergency Medical Services and then transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he received treatment for stab wounds to his chest and back until he succumbed to his injuries. Salisbury was pronounced dead at JCMC shortly after 12:20 p.m. on November 4, 2017.

On October 30, 2017, after a brief investigation conducted by the Jersey City Police Department, officers arrested Rabb. She was initially charged with Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1, a second-degree crime; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5, a third-degree crime; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4, a fourth-degree crime.

Rabb has been held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny since her arrest on October 30.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
