BLOOMFIELD MAN CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED SEXUAL ASSAULT OF 24-YEAR-OLD WOMAN AT JERSEY CITY PARTY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On June 27, 2020, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Olumuyiwa Olumodeji, age 35, of Bloomfield, on charges that he sexually assaulted a 24-year-old woman at a party on Manila Avenue in Jersey City on June 23, 2020.

Olumodeji has been charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2A(7), a crime of the first-degree and Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(1), a crime of the second degree. Olumodeji was also charged with Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1B(1), a crime of the second degree, for attempting to cause serious bodily injury to a male party attendee who attempted to stop Olumodeji from leaving the scene.

Olumodeji was arrested at the Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City shortly after 9:00 am without incident.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
