Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Monday, February 14, 2022, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Michael Serrano, 29, of Bayonne, on charges relating to an incident where he provided two minors with alcoholic beverages and then committed a sex crime on a 14-year-old girl.

Serrano was charged with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3a, a crime of the third agree, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1), crimes of the third degree, and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2), crimes of the third degree. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City and remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

On Friday, July 16, 2021, representatives from the Bayonne Medical Center Emergency Room contacted the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office after a 14-year-old girl reported being the victim of a sex crime. An investigation by the Special Victims Unit determined Serrano provided two teenage girls, ages 14 and 15, with alcoholic beverages. Serrano then parked behind a building on Lefante Way and committed a sex crime on the 14-year-old victim in the back seat of a vehicle. The 15-year-old was present when the crime was committed.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit with the investigation and arrest. Anyone wishing to report a sex crime should call the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) at 201-915-1234. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
