MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH FATAL HIT-AND-RUN IN JERSEY CITY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the November 3, 2021 hit-and-run crash that killed Phillip Delancy.

Kristopher Khusial, of Jersey City, is charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Death in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-5.1, a crime of the second degree, and Endangering an Injured Person in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2a, a crime of the third degree. Khusial was arrested without incident at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City and released on a summons pending his first court appearance on Monday, June 20, 2022.

On Tuesday, November 3, 2021, shortly after 9:30 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of 740 Route 440 in Jersey City on reports of a pedestrian stuck. Responding officers found the victim – later identified as Phillip Delancy, 36, of Jersey City – with life-threatening injuries in the northbound lane of the roadway. Delancy was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:25 p.m. The vehicle involved in the collision had left the scene.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
