8-YEAR-OLD BOY FATALLY INJURED IN JERSEY CITY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released the following information:

On Saturday, October 28, 2017, at approximately 4:45 p.m., Jersey City Police Officers responded to the area of Christopher Columbus Drive and Grove Street on a report of a pedestrian struck with life-threatening injuries.

Upon arrival, responding officers found that Jeremiah Grant, age 8, of Jersey City, was the apparent victim of motor vehicle strike. Grant was transported immediately to Jersey City Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services where he was pronounced dead at approximately 5:05 p.m.

An initial investigation found that the young boy was struck by a red Jeep Compass traveling westbound on Christopher Columbus Drive. The driver, a 60-year-old man from Union City, stopped in the area of 114 Christopher Columbus Drive after passing motorists and pedestrians alerted him that his vehicle had struck a pedestrian. He remained at that location as the incident was investigated. At this time, no charges have been filed and there have been no summons issued to the driver.

The incident is being investigated by the Jersey City Police Department Crash Unit with assistance by the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor. The investigation is active and ongoing.
