55-Year-Old Man Charged in Fatal Stabbing in Jersey City


55-YEAR-OLD MAN CHARGED IN FATAL STABBING OF JERSEY CITY MAN ON CAMBRIDGE AVENUE IN JERSEY CITY

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit has charged a 55-year-old Jersey City man with the stabbing death of an unidentified adult male, who was found deceased in the area of Cambridge Avenue in Jersey City just after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021.

Steven Bardsley has been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3A(1)(2), a first-degree crime; Possession of a Weapon (knife) for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d, a third-degree crime; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (knife) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5d, a fourth-degree crime.

On Saturday, July 24, 2021, just after 10:00 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of 151 Cambridge Avenue where they found a lifeless adult male victim – who at this time remains unidentified – with a stab wound(s) to neck. The victim was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 10:20 p.m. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner.

Bardsley was apprehended a short time later by Jersey City police officers on Central Avenue.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
