Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit has arrested three individuals following an investigation into the creation of fraudulent life insurance policies.
Auditya Ramotar, 69, of Ozone Park, New York, is charged with two counts of Tampering with Records in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-4b(1); two counts of Theft of Identity in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-17a(3); two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Insurance Fraud in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a(1) and 2C:21-4.6a; and two counts of Insurance Fraud in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-4.6a. Leona Ramroop, 58, of Ozone Park, New York, is charged with Falsifying Records in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-4.1 and two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Insurance Fraud in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a(1) and 2C:21-4.6a. Bhogewattie Ramotar, 57, of Ozone Park, New York, is charged with Conspiracy to Commit Insurance Fraud in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a(1) and 2C:21-4.6a. Auditya and Bhogewattie Ramotar were arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office on August 23, 2024, and released on a summons. Ramroop was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office on September 19, 2024, and released on a summons.
The investigation found Auditya Ramotar, in his role as a licensed insurance provider, fraudulently obtained two life insurance policies for an individual without their consent. Ramroop, a phlebotomist, generated falsified medical records to support fraudulent claims that would benefit accounts associated with Auditya and Bhogewattie Ramotar.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Insurance Fraud Unit with the arrest and investigation. Anyone wishing to report an insurance related crime should call the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit at 201-795-6400 ext. 6634.
