GRAND JURY RETURNS INDICTMENT IN BAYONNE MURDER

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

On December 4, 2019, a Hudson County Grand Jury returned an Indictment against Anthony Shuler, age 28, of Jersey City, charging him with four counts related to the death of Diamond Robinson that occurred on September 22, 2019 in Bayonne. Shuler was arraigned on the Indictment on Monday, December 16, 2019.

The Indictment charges Shuler with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, a first-degree crime; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5, a second-degree crime; Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4, a second-degree crime; and Certain Persons Not To Possess a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7.

On September 22, at approximately 5:10 a.m., members of the Bayonne Police Department responded to 484 John F. Kennedy Boulevard on a report of a potential domestic violence incident. Upon arrival, Bayonne Police Officers located Robinson, age 26, of Bayonne who was unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at approximately 5:30 a.m. at the scene. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of death to be a gunshot wound and the Manner of death to be homicide.

A preliminary investigation was conducted by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit with the assistance of the Bayonne Police Department and a suspect was identified. Later that morning, Shuler was arrested by members of the Bayonne Police Department on East 21st Street in Bayonne and he was charged with murder and multiple weapon charges. He is currently being held pending trial.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
